The Committee approved a change in the regulations for the 2025/26 UEFA boys’ club competitions to allow a temporary replacement of one player in cases of long-term injury or illness, up to Matchday 6 of the league phase (inclusive).

Purpose: To ensure that squad lists are not unfairly reduced and to protect players from excessive workload.

  • The Committee acknowledged this as a growing and significant matter but emphasized the need to gather input from all stakeholders before a final decision is made.

  • UEFA reaffirmed its responsibility as the governing body of European football to consider all aspects involved.

  • No decision was taken today; instead, UEFA will launch a consultation round with all parties, including fans, before moving forward.
