The President of the Albanian Association, Armand Duka, after getting acquainted with the retirement decision of Mërgim Mavraj from the national team, reacted of social networks, praising the defender that represented the red and black colors for eight straight years.
‘’Today it got to know with the decision of Mërgim Mavraj to retire from the national team. Such news is always touching, especially when they come from players that have given a lot for our national team. Always realistic, willing to sacrifice for the best of the team and a well-educated leader- this is how I recall Mërgim, since 2012, when he started the journey with the national team. In these eight years, culminated with the qualification in the European Football Championship 2016, an achievement that is engraved in the golden pages of the history of Albanian football.
I am proud for players like Mërgim that have considered the national teams as the most sacred thing. As he said today, everything has an end and age is a factor.
By maximally praising his contribution for the national team, I want to wish success to him in the future and best of luck’’ wrote President Duka.
