International Women’s Day/ The AFA organizes a mini football tournament with the staff, UN Women & female journalists. Basha: A tradition that brings courageous messages for the women and girls

On the occasion of March 8th, International Women’s Day, the AFA organized a special mini football tournament at the “House of Football” with the participation of girls from UN Women, sports journalists and beyond, as well as female staff members of the AFA administration.

This activity by the AFA is now becoming a beautiful tradition, as it was previously organized during the awareness month against breast cancer. The girls, divided into four teams, played football and together celebrated March 8th under the slogan, “Happy March 8th to every woman who changes the game.”

The event was also welcomed by Executive Committee member Anila Basha and the UN Resident Coordinator in Albania, Fiona McCluney.

In her speech, ExCo member Anila Basha stated that this event serves to convey as many encouraging messages as possible about the rights of women and girls.

“A such a beautiful event, which we are now turning into a tradition and organizing regularly. Together, we are creating this wonderful tradition by holding this mini competition, which, beyond the value of the game itself at this moment, carries great significance for the solidarity we show toward causes related to girls and women.

At the Football Association, we work hard and with dedication on projects, ideas, and strategies related to social policies and vulnerable groups. This is one of the activities we organize for March 8th, for Women’s Day, to encourage them and to show that we need more initiatives and messages like this.

Today, as always, we have the girls from AFA, the girls from UN Women, and female journalists, who will make their voices heard through videos and promotion. I truly hope that this mini tournament turns into a real celebration for Women’s and Girls’ Day,” – said ExCo member Anila Basha.

The UN Resident Coordinator in Albania, Fiona McCluney, in her brief speech, emphasized that football serves as a means to convey the message of peace and equality.

“It’s a beautiful day to play football. We celebrate International Women’s Day and the women who play football, for peace, for equality, and for fun,”- said the UN Resident Coordinator in Albania, Fiona McCluney.

The football tournament was won by the sports journalists, who were awarded a symbolic trophy by the Football Association.
