The Football Association organized a mini football tournament in celebration of March 8th, International Women’s Day, with the participation of UN Women girls, sports journalists, and girls from the AFA administrative staff. The aim of this activity was to convey awareness raising messages about gender equality, the fight against violence and discrimination, and more.
In a statement to fshf.org, sports journalist Vilma Masha, AFA official Pamela Ndocaj, and UN Women representative Alba Agolli praised this activity and shared their messages, emphasizing the importance of gender equality, empowering women, and breaking down prejudices.
Sport was described as a symbol of solidarity, with a call for more unity among women to build a fairer society. The main message was that March 8th is not just a day for flowers, but also for actions and change.
“The model of success is indeed very important not only in our country but around the world. I believe that the media has, in a way, done its part. We strive every day to promote success stories of people who have raised the name of the country, as well as their own names.
By promoting sports, promoting the important values it conveys, and also highlighting all the commitment and dedication to move forward, despite every difficulty, to succeed even though you are a woman, in the face of prejudices or anything else.
This March 8th, I would like women to believe more in themselves, to believe more in their abilities, and to break every prejudice, especially the male one,” -said Vilma Masha, sports journalist.
“For me, this match is a celebration of solidarity among girls and women. It’s not just a game, but a strong message that we want to give and say that, united, we can overcome any kind of limitation and difficulty.
So, it’s our way of showing that March 8th is not just a day for flowers, but also for actions and change,” said Pamela Ndocaj, AFA official.
“As part of International Women’s Day, the message we have for women and girls is that we must all be united for all women and girls. This day is dedicated to all of them, but we must all stand together in order to have a more equal society, with more rights, especially between men and women,” said Alba Agolli, representative of UN Women.
