For the first time in history, a woman Albanian referee will officiate a UEFA Women’s Champions League match. The communications department of AFA informs that Emanuela Rusta will officiate the match SL Benfica W – Barcelona W in the sixth round of UEFA Champions League, meanwhile one of her assistants will also be an Albanian, Edjena Kapxhiu in the role of the first assistant.
The match, SL Benfica W – Barcelona W it’s programmed to be played in Sexial, Portugal on the 31th of January at 21:00.
This is another great news and success for the Albanian arbitration and the Albanian Football Association, who get a valuation of this kind from UEFA. This proves once again the growth of the Albanian arbitration and the representation in high levels in the European and worldwide football arena.
Emanuela Rusta and Edjena Kapxhiu are both equipped with the FIFA badge, while in June 2023 Rusta became the first woman referee promoted from the Arbitrary Committee of UEFA, climbing into the first category.
Until now, Emanuela Rusta and Edjena Kapxhiu have only officiated in the qualifying rounds, while on Wednesday night they will write history by officiating a group stage match of UEFA Women’s Champions League.
