After taking on the role of Technical Director of the Albanian Football Association, Abdyl Kuriu has immediately begun work on continuing and further developing this department.
With his long experience within the Federation, including serving as a member of the Executive Committee, he aims to move existing projects forward and increase the focus on grassroots football, talent development, and strengthening the national teams.
In an interview for fshf.org, Kuriu shared his appreciation for the trust placed in him, spoke about his first priorities in the role, and discussed the main directions of the Technical Directorate’s work, from the “Elite Youth” academy to women’s football.
The role of AFA Technical Director – I feel highly appreciated, and for this I would like to sincerely thank the President of the the AFA, Armand Duka, because he valued my role and my work throughout all the time we have been together at the Federation, by entrusting me with the leadership of the Technical Directorate.
Responsibilities of the Technical Directorate and continuation of the work – The Technical Directorate has a wide range of activities, but I believe that the priority at the start of my work has been grassroots football, expanding participation, and identifying talents.
The ‘Elite Youth’ Academy is a collaboration between AFA and UEFA, a very good partnership. So far it has gone very well, and we aim to take it to an even higher level because we consider it a very valuable source for future talents who will serve our youth national teams and beyond.
Work with the national teams – I believe the youth national teams are on the right path. They have worked well, and I think this work must continue and be raised to an even higher level because our ambition is that, through the youth national teams, we will tomorrow provide talents for the senior national team.
Women’s football? – It has been, is, and will always remain in the focus of our work. We will continue the projects that have already started and are ongoing.
